Hot Toys is known for creating masterpieces and Astro Boy is another fine example from them. When the movie came out last year collectors were probably anticipating a release from HT and the company delivered.
For a complete list of its features please check HT's website http://www.hottoys.com.hk then under product line point to the MMS tab then click Astro Boy.
Package Contents:
Aside from the 9" Astro Boy, you get a black stand which is similar to the shape of his head, extra hands, interchangeable rocket powered boots, 2 extra pegs and interchangeable arm cannons.
PhoTOYgrapher's Perspective:
It's a good toy with which you can do a variety of poses with or without the stand. However if you plan to replace his shoes with the rocket powered boots then placing him on the stand is the thing to do. However there is a limit as to what you can do with it (kindly check issue #2 below).
Collector's Perspective:
If you are an Astro Boy fan then this is currently the best toy there is on the market. The details are stunning and the addition of several accessories (not to mention the light up eyes) can give you countless hours of giving him various poses. Amazon.com is currently selling this for $ 104.99 (http://www.amazon.com/Sideshow-Collectibles-Hot-Toys-Astro/dp/B002NGNGSW/ref=pd_sbs_t_2). It retails for about P 6,000.00 ++ here in this Philippines.
I only have 3 issues with this toy:
1.) As what my good buddy Kerwin pointed out, it would be nice if his rocket powered boots can light up (think of HT's Iron Man's interchangeable hands).
2.) If you pose Astro flying then you are going to have a hard time propping his head backwards facing up. Unlike the Batman DX in which the head is magnetized, Astro's head is similar to the earlier pieces of Hot Toys, a mini like barbell peg that connects the head to the body which means limited maneuverability.
3.) I had to use a plier to remove the barbell like pegs from his feet so I can replace it with the rocket powered boots. I covered the peg with a towel and gently secured it with a plier to remove it.
Aside from these minor issues, Astro Boy is one cool toy that deserves to have a good photo opt. The bonus light up eyes which can be activated via the white switch inside his chest makes for good dramatic shots. Let your imagination run wild and you can produce fantastic results.
